UCLA Faculty on Tour

Kathryn Norberg
History divider

Kathryn Norberg has taught in the UCLA Department of History for 32 years. She is a historian of Europe, specializing in French history before 1800. She is the author or editor of six books and many articles dealing with topics as diverse as the history of charity, French peasant communities, national debt crises, women during the French Revolution, eighteenth-century furniture and clothing in fashion prints. A past president of the Western Society for French history, she has taught courses on prehistory, late medieval France and royal courts. She has traveled widely in provincial France, researching projects in more than 20 French cities and Montreal, Canada. She also works in women’s and gender history and twice served as Acting Chair of the UCLA Gender Studies Department. Recent projects have given Norberg a passion for military history and material culture, especially history of architecture, clothing and food.
