Professor Emeritus Kathryn Norberg

Until her retirement in 2023, Kathryn Norberg taught European history in the UCLA History department for 36 years. She is the author or editor of seven books and many articles dealing with topics as diverse as the history of charity, fiscal crises, women in revolution, and eighteenth-century furniture and fashion prints in the age of Louis XIV. Her most recent project analyzes life in an eighteenth-century brothel. Her teaching at UCLA covered Europe from the Ancients to the internet. She is particularly interested in Roman history. Pompeii is a special passion because it is a source for the history of everyday life in ancient times.
