UCLA Faculty on Tour

Professor Michael Shin
Department of Geography divider

Professor Michael Shin is a faculty member in the UCLA Department of Geography who specializes in contemporary Italian society, politics and culture. Since joining UCLA in 2001, Michael has published several articles and two books on political change in Italy, the rise of populism in Italy, Europe and the US, and Italy’s infamous leader, Silvio Berlusconi. His research has been supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, University of California Office of the President, and UCLA Faculty Senate. Michael is also the faculty director of the UCLA Geospatial initiative, the mission of which is to promote the use of digital mapping technologies in teaching and research. Fluent in Italian, he travels to Italy frequently, and possesses local knowledge and expertise across Tuscany.
